Research Fellow Signal Processing & Control Group

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join the Signal Processing and Control Group of the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. You will work as a part of a team on the development of intelligent acoustic systems that combine directional microphone array beamforming with active noise cancellation technology. The aim of the technology is to provide the user with an enhanced and adaptable acoustic experience in a variety of acoustic environments. You will, therefore, benefit from a varied project that will involve acoustics, signal processing and adaptive control. The research is supported and being carried out in collaboration with a large telecommunications company and, therefore, will provide the successful applicant with exposure to both academic and industrial research perspectives. This may open a variety of different future career pathways.

It is essential you have a PhD in acoustical engineering, signal processing, control or a related area. In particular, a background in the fields of active noise control and microphone array signal processing would be ideally suited to the role. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience in the design and implementation of complete acoustic signal processing systems from the system hardware through to the signal processing. 

Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given. Although the position is initially for a fixed term of 12 months due to funding restrictions, this may be extended based on future funding success.
