Duties and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Early Child Development (ECD) teacher education (birth – 9 years of age).
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the discipline of ECD.
  • Contribute to academic coordination of the ECD programme and perform administrative tasks related to ECD.
  • Oversee the programme approval process for the new diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).
  • Participate in the Work Integrated Learning Programme.
  • Perform research activities and become involved in research activities.
  • Act as a research supervisor for postgraduate students.
  • Provide consultation sessions for students.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders.

    Inherent requirements:

    Junior Lecturer:

  • An honour’s degree in an appropriate Educational field of study.
  • A good academic record.
  •  

    Lecturer:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate Educational field of study.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produce that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.
  • A good academic record.
  •  

    Required competencies:

  • Knowledge and experience of teaching subjects in  the ECD context at school level and/or higher education level and / or training context.
  • Knowledge and use of inclusive pedagogic practices and alternative assessment strategies.
  • Proficiency of teaching strategies, methodologies, and programme evaluation with a specific focus on ECD.
  • Knowledge of recent developments in the fields of ECD.
  • Good research skills.
  • Sound interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Good computer literacy skills.
  •  

    Recommendations:

    Junior Lecturer:

    Master’s degree or willingness to enrol for a Master’s degree in an appropriate Educational field of study at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment. Three (3) year’s Early Child Development (ECD) (birth - 9 yers of age)  teaching experience in a schooling and/or higher education context and/or ECD training context.   

    Lecturer:

    PhD or willingness to enrol for a doctoral degree in an appropriate Educational field of study at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment. Proven research record of relevant publications in national accredited journals. Three (3) year’s Early Child Development (ECD) (birth - 9 yers of age)  teaching experience in a schooling and/or higher education context and/or ECD training context.

    As soon as possible.
