The UQ Medical Program

The Faculty of Medicine is a leading provider of medical education in Queensland, with the country’s largest medical degree program. Its MD program includes graduate entry and school-leaver entry streams, and is an integrated, case-based/problem based learning program. The Phase 1 or preclinical component of the program is delivered by a combination of biomedical scientists and clinicians, predominantly at the St. Lucia campus but also at affiliated major teaching hospitals. Phase 2 is delivered at a large number of hospitals in Brisbane, across Queensland and in Louisiana and covers the academic disciplines of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, General Practice, Medical Ethics, Law and Professional Practice, Medical Imaging, Medicine, Molecular and Cellular Pathology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Child Health, Psychiatry, Rural Medicine, and Surgery.

 

The role

The Clinical Academic Lead Year 3 Medicine will coordinate and oversee the delivery of the course curriculum, student welfare and assessments for MBBS/MD Year 3 Medicine rotation students. You will review curriculum and teaching sessions for each rotation and liaise with other academics in the Discipline of Medicine. You will also manage orientation for students at the beginning of each rotation, review and approve any requests for absence, assess student feedback from each rotation, and meet with students who have failed or request discussion regarding their results.

Note: This 5 year contracted position has the opportunity to be linked to the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital 0.5 FTE permanent consultant position in General Medicine or the Clinical Academic in Medicine 5 year contracted position, within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland. The person

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and possess Undergraduate qualifications in a discipline relevant to the role. You will have demonstrated expert knowledge in the area of Internal Medicine as well as experience in clinic-based medical teaching, and demonstrated teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

 

Remuneration

This is a part-time, fixed term appointment for 5 years, (0.5 or 0.6 FTE), as a Teaching Focused Academic Level C/D. The remuneration package will be in the range of;

Level C - $56,437.23 - $65,075.45p.a plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total pro-rata package based on 0.5FTE will be in the range $67,954.86 - $74,865.70 p.a)

Level D - $66,031.56 - $76,138.28 p.a. plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total pro-rata package based on 0.5FTE will be in the range of $79,507.19 - $87,592.87 p.a.).

Clinical Loadings may be payable to eligible appointees.
