Job Purpose

For this post we seek a Research Fellow that can work individually and as part of a wider team on the Europe and Global Challenges funded project entitled: Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the Refugee Crisis. The purpose of the role is to develop and deliver high quality research that supports the delivery of this international research project with partners in Australia, Sweden and Turkey.

 

Main duties:

  • Being the primary UK-based researcher on the SGBV project.
  • Assisting, where relevant, in working with the principal investigator (PI) and Project Lead (PL) to co-ordinate research activities between the Birmingham based project, the international SGBV project partners and the wider SGBV network, including the virtual advisory group.
  • Working on a day-day basis with the overall project director and the UK lead investigator involved with the SGBV project.
  • Undertaking literature reviews
  • Undertaking fieldwork in country of employment and in Australia for a period of 12 months.
  • Analyse and interpret research findings and results using a qualitative analysis software programme.
  • Writing up and disseminating findings.
  • Organising dissemination events and attending conferences to disseminate findings.

 

Person Specification

  • First degree in area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
  • Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
