Job Purpose

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within the EPSRC Fellowship project “FORGING: Fortuitous Geometries and Compressive Learning”. The project is based in the School of Computer Science. It aims to deepen the theoretical and methodological foundations statistical machine learning in high dimensional settings.

 

Person Specification

  • PhD degree in Computer Science or Mathematics.
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in at least one, and familiarity with at least two of the following: Non-convex Optimisation Algorithms, Statistical Learning Theory, High Dimensional Probability Theory / Measure Concentration, Bounds for Stochastic Processes, Geometric Functional Analysis
  • Ability and willingness to learn new techniques in the above areas
  • Ability to devise and implement new algorithms
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
