The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences

The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) is one of the largest and most successful schools in the Faculty of Science, with a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and research that encompasses the disciplines of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Microbiology. The School is home to more than 60 continuing academic staff, around 100 research staff, 24 administrative officers, 28 technical staff, 250 postgraduate coursework students and 200 higher degree by research students. The School also hosts a number of research centres, including the Centre for Organic Photonics and Electronics, the Australian Infectious Diseases Research Centre, the Australian Centre for Ecogenomics Research and the Centre for Metals in Biology. As part of a major initiative, a Professor of Tropical Agronomy has been appointed to the school, and we now seek to appoint additional plant science academics to extend our capacity in agronomy, horticulture and crop physiology.

 

The role

The successful applicant will contribute to (and for Levels D and E, provide leadership to) the teaching and research activities in the field of Biotechnology in the School and the University. The applicant will work with the Head of School, as well as other staff members across the University, to develop and implement the School's strategic plan, and to integrate the teaching and research programs in Biotechnology. Located at the St Lucia campus, the appointees will be responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate course coordination, teaching and program development; and will be expected to contribute substantially to the national and international research profile of the School, supervise research students, obtain external grant funding and undertake professional activities.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in Biotechnolgoy or related field, and have substantial experience in Biotechnology. Applicants will also demonstrate teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate level, effective supervision of research students, and have a strong research portfolio in Biotechnology.

 

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at Academic level D or E depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.  The remuneration package will be in the range:

  • Academic Level D: $ 135,909 – $149,731 p.a. plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $159,014 - $175,185 p.a.)

  • Academic Level E: $175,070 p.a. plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $204,832 p.a.)
