JOB PURPOSE: Directs and oversees research and development for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) reagent kits and bioinformatics solutions. As RnD site leader takes ownership of product delivery from project initiation through launch. Leads the R&D managers at the site, improves performance and builds a strong team that collaborates well within and outside of the site. Has at least 5 years experience in molecular diagnostics research and development and strong leadership acumen and is able to lead the technology as well as the people. Sets high standards and expectations to provide for growth and scientific excellence in the team in accordance with Next Generation Sequencing as an important growth market for PerkinElmer

The person is accountable for NGS product delivery at the site. Through exemplary leadership he/she assures reagent kits and panels launch on time and in highest quality to drive strong business growth.

Team leadership
- Align on a common vision for RnD at the site to build a highly cohesive team of individuals with strong subject matter expertise and personalities
- Instill a sense of urgency and collaboration while focusing on key deliverables
Technical leadership - Follow market and technology trends to assure technical excellence is maintained and nurtured
- Participate in the evaluation of new technology with Business Development and Technology scouting groups in PerkinElmer
- Manage interfaces to other functions at the site and stakeholders outside of the organization, including other RnD teams, customers, sales, service.
- Develop a product development model that meets PerkinElmer design control requirements while assuring the agility and speed to market of the Austin culture is maintained
Design excellence - Orchestrate the RnD team to meet highest expectation for product design, performance and quality
Collaboration - Partner with other stakeholders in PerkinElmer in Applied Genomics to drive Next Generation sequencing solutions, assure successful product launches and service offerings that dominate in the high growth market
- Partner with Business to represent the company at customer events and conferences as best in class provider of high performing sequencing solutions
Other Duties - As part of the North Amercian RnD leadership team, drive continuous improvement projects and initiatives at global level
