Job Purpose

  • To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within a grant awarded by Action for A-T research entitled: ‘Defining novel targeted strategies for treating ATM deficient lymphomas using a new Atm null murine model that faithfully recapitulates the tumour spectrum observed in A-T patients’
  • The post-holder will be involved in performing experiments aimed at understanding how lymphoma develops in the absence of ATM function, what cellular pathways are deregulated and how they can be targeted for therapeutic purpose.
  • The post holder will learn and apply a number of different techniques.
  • He/She will be involved in breeding Atm-/-nu-/- animals and processing lymphoma cells
  • He/She will culture lymphoma cells obtained from animals to derive cell lines and test/optimize conditions for such cultures
  • He/She will undertake cytotoxicity testing on cell lines and in animals transplanted with lymphoma cells
  • This will require a postdoctoral fellow who is interested in academic research, has an interest in learning a variety of techniques, and who has a good laboratory training and experience in the appropriate cell biological and molecular techniques.
  • The ability to analyse and depict data using software packages is also required

 

Person Specification

  • A higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications
  • Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques
  • Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
  • Ability to access and organise resources successfully
  • Good knowledge about modern concepts of tumorigenesis
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (including written and presentational)
  • Effective organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to work flexibly, when necessary, to fulfil the needs of the research project
  • Evidence of an ability to work individually and in a research team
  • Experience and willingness to work in a competitive academic research environment
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Preferential previous experience with animal work.
  • Understanding and experience of research methods and processes, which are essential to progress this project.
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
