Job Details

  • Prestigious international university
  • Wide range of employee benefits
  • Exciting postdoctoral position available

  • The University of Adelaide is one of Australia's leading Group of Eight, research-intensive universities and is consistently ranked among the top 1% of universities in the world. Established in 1874, it is Australia's third oldest university with a strong reputation for preparing educated leaders and delivering research outcomes that contribute to local, national and global wellbeing.

University of Adelaide employees enjoy a range of benefits and favourable work conditions that include opportunities for career development and advancement.

The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. As the first university in Australia to grant degrees in science (1882), science has long been at the cornerstone of the institution and this continues today. As a research and education leader in fields such as agriculture, food & wine, animal & veterinary sciences, biological sciences, and physical sciences, the Faculty offers an exciting and innovative work environment.

The School of Physical Sciences is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Sciences.  Located at the University's North Terrace campus, the School brings together the internationally recognised contemporary disciplines of chemistry; earth science; and physics, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors.

The vision of the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) is to pursue a transdisciplinary approach that brings together experimental physicists, chemists, material scientists, engineers, mathematicians, biologists and medical researchers to create new sensing and measurement technologies in order to solve major challenges.

The Optical Materials and Structure Research Group at IPAS, through the School of Physical Sciences, has recently secured funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) for the development of new conductive transparent fibres for the next-generation of photonics devices with direct control of light by electrons in a single material platform. The project aims to add electrical conduction functionality to optical fibres to enable manipulation of light with electrons and vice versa in an established photonics platform, which will ultimately bridge the gap between photonics and electronics. The project will lead to breakthroughs in fundamental science at the interfaces between photonics, electronics and materials engineering. The ultimate outcome of the project is a new class of optical fibres that paves the way towards a step-change in functionalities and applications of optical fibre devices.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with background in materials science or photonics or physical chemistry or engineering to drive the development and fabrication of the new optical fibres.

    Salary:

    (Level A) $83,307 - $89,425 per annum.

    Superannuation:
