Technology Transfer Officer

Job Purpose

To act as a resource and catalyst for the commercial development of biomedical research outputs within the College of MDS and to contribute to the continued development of the College’s commercial portfolio. The post holder will provide practical support for Academics, Business Development and Intellectual Property staff to identify new intellectual property and to support the development of new commercial opportunities, through identification of intellectual property, preparing business plans and sourcing commercial development funding.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Good honours degree or equivalent research/business/IP experience.
• Postgraduate qualification, or equivalent, in a field related to Biomedicine.

Experience

• Experience of handling IPR issues, including detailed knowledge of the requirements for commercial exploitation of biomedical research (ideally evidenced by a relevant qualification) with at least 3 years experience.
• Experience of conducting due diligence, market research and preparing business plans.
• Awareness of the key facts associated with preparing, filing and maintaining patent applications.
• Experience of proposal development and awareness of the funding environment for knowledge transfer in the UK.
• Experience of collating and reviewing technical information.
• Previous experience of effective networking within a range of private and public sector organisations.

• Excellent communication, team working, relationship management and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in deadline-driven situations.
• Excellent IT skills, particularly in word processing, spreadsheets and database management.
• Good presentation skills to enable effective preparation and delivery of seminars and workshops.
