Research Group Leader Positions

The Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) has openings for up to four (4) Research Group Leaders. Of these four (4) Research Group Leader vacancies, IMB is looking for up to two (2) in the fields of genomics and bioinformatics.

The IMB is a multidisciplinary research Institute of The University of Queensland, located in Brisbane, Australia. IMB has three Divisions (Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine, Chemistry & Structural Biology, Genomics of Development and Disease) containing six focused and multidisciplinary Research Centres (www.imb.uq.edu.au/centres). The Institute houses 31 research groups engaged in bioscience and biomedical research, and headed by some of Australia’s leading scientists. Our emphasis is on high quality basic research and its translation into medical and biotechnological outcomes. The IMB is equipped with state-of-the-art core facilities for research and we enjoy a vibrant environment for research, research training and commercialisation.

As an IMB Group Leader the successful applicant will be expected to develop an independent research program, funded largely by competitive grants and fellowships, and to conduct world-leading science, develop strong multidisciplinary national and international collaborations, and actively promote translation of research outcomes into biomedicine or technology.

Of particular interest are candidates applying cutting-edge technologies to address fundamental questions in cell and developmental biology, genomics, structural biology and drug discovery.

The IMB is committed to equity and diversity, including gender equity, in its recruitment activities.

Selection criteria

  • A visionary research program in a field listed above that can be supported by grant and fellowship funding in competitive schemes
  • A growing national or international profile in the relevant research field
  • The potential to collaborate in research networks both internally and externally

Appointments from research academic levels C (Assistant Professor) to D (Associate Professor) are sought. Highly competitive start-up packages will be available to provide our new Group Leaders with the best possible support during their establishment at IMB.

Further information about the IMB is available on our website [www.imb.uq.edu.au] or can be obtained from the Director, Prof. Brandon Wainwright [director@imb.uq.edu.au] or Acting Deputy Director [Research], Prof. Peter Koopman [deputydirector_research@imb.uq.edu.au].
