RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Supporting, maintaining and developing the Institutional Repository (UPSpace) platform;
  • Participating in the broader DSpace and IR community;
  • The development of open source software, services and infrastructure for the Department of Library Services;
  • Supporting other IT programming/development/integration needs for the Department of Library Services.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A relevant three-year Information Technology (IT) degree or equivalent with two years’ relevant experience.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Proven knowledge of and experience in Open Source Platforms preferably DSpace or similar;
  • Relational databases preferably PostgreSQL, MySQL or similar;
  • Technical competencies (CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, XSLT, Bootstrap, Angular JS, HTML);
  • Webserver stacks (Apache, Tomcat or IIS);
  • Organisational skills;
  • Logical and analytical thinker;
  • Problem solving skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.

 

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 428 870 to R 553 277 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
