Duties and responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional information and reference services aimed at supporting teaching and learning (embed librarianship, Academic-Librarian collaborations).
  • Build a balanced collection of information resources that meet the teaching, learning, research and recreational information needs of clients.
  • Conduct structured library orientation sessions and equip University of the Free State students with multi-literacy skills (Information, Digital and Research Literacy Skills).
  • Market the Library and its services and communicate regularly with clients.
  • Ensure that clients are kept informed of developments in the Library Information Services (e.g. attending faculty board meetings,  departmental visits and related awareness activities).
  •  

    Inherent requirements:

    • Degree in Library and Information Science (B.bibl, Blnf) or Degree plus Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science.
    • Five (5) years' relevant experience.
    • LIASA membership (please attach the membership certificate).

     

    Required competencies:

    • Knowledge of the academic world and the South African higher education drivers.
    • Knowledge of Library and Information Science as a profession.
    • Knowledge of report writing.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Written and oral communication proficiency in the official administrative language of the institution.

    • Interpersonal skills.
    • Innovative/creative problem solving skills.
    • Organisational and planning skills.
    • Client service orientation.
    • Willingness to work outside working hours.

    Recommendations:

    • Five (5) years’ relevant experience in academics library setting.
