Job Purpose

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge on the behaviour and welfare of sanctuary great apes (mostly chimpanzees) by undertaking research on their behavioural ecology as part of a research programme between the University of Birmingham, Ape Action Africa and other great ape sanctuaries.

 

Person Specification

  • PhD in primate behavioural ecology or a related topic
  • Demonstrable expertise in studying primate behaviour
  • Proven ability to work in the field (wild and/or sanctuary) in tropical conditions
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, particularly to non-academic audiences
  • Experience in managing research in captive environments and the unique issues that arise from research in this setting
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes in research
  • Ability to speak French and willingness to learn new languages
