DIRECTOR: EDUCATION INNOVATION
The University of Pretoria (UP) is a leading research university in South Africa with an excellent teaching reputation as evidenced by the University’s retention and success rates and the employability of UP graduates. The University’s commitment to student support and development manifests itself in integrated curricular and co-curricular experiences for students on campus, online and at community sites of learning or in the workplace. The University prides itself on producing well-rounded, creative graduates; responsible, productive citizens and future leaders.
The Department for Education Innovation (EI) offers leadership and support for quality teaching and academic development across the University within a hybrid model of teaching and learning. EI’s vision is ‘Creating synergy towards innovative education environments for student engagement and success’. The Department’s influence extends across the University, addressing the unique needs of managers and different educational entities for decision support.
The University now seeks to appoint a new Director for EI. The new Director will be responsible for the development, execution and management of an extensive strategic plan for EI, in consultation with the Vice-Principal: Academic and the University Executive. He or she will provide guidance to a team of dedicated professionals, offering an education innovation support service to academic staff of the University of Pretoria in the areas of teaching, learning and assessment, community engagement and coordination and facilitation of student retention and success initiatives. Ideally, he or she will have extensive experience in the use of e-technologies and analytics in deepening the learning experience and advancing student success. She or he will be required to liaise with national organizations focused on higher education and to represent the University on relevant committees. The sourcing and management of grants to support teaching development and student success are part of the Director’s responsibility.
