MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT A (THREE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)

PEROMNES POST LEVEL 10

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Faculty has a research and training platform called the Hans Hoheisen Wildlife Research Station in Mpumalanga. It consists of three divisions namely:

  • The Mnisi Community Programme;
  • A veterinary laboratory at the Hans Hoheisen Wildlife Research Station (HHWRS);
  • Hluvukani Animal Clinic, 30 km from the Station.

 

Undergraduate students of the Faculty spend several weeks at HHWRS as part of their clinical training. This programme is likely to expand due to growing numbers of overseas students. As part of on-going support, the Faculty is looking for someone with a medical background and extensive administrative experience to provide comprehensive support for both students and staff. He/She will be stationed at the Hans Hoheisen Wildlife Research Station, which is situated next to the Kruger National Park’s Orpen Gate.

Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing medical and emotional support to students;
  • Student and academic-related liaison, roster co-ordination, allocation of rooms, and administration;
  • General office administration, for example handling telephone, fax, electronic, internet etc.;
  • Assisting the veterinarian at the Hluvukani Animal Clinic with administration, procurement, accounts etc.;
  • Providing administrative support to researchers;
  • Providing basic financial administration;
  • Organising centre events and providing assistance with marketing functions.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Tertiary education in Nursing;
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council;
  • At least five years’ experience in medical administration and basic medical care.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Advanced level of computer literacy in MS Office as well as in the use of internet and e-mail;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills, with advanced writing skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with students and a wide range of entities within the university community, as well as with external entities;
  • Demonstrable organisation skills;
  • The ability to function independently and maintain confidentiality;
  • Time management skills and the ability to work under pressure, organise and prioritise effectively.

 

PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates should be prepared to participate in relevant competency testing as part of the selection process. It will be expected from the successful candidate to undergo training in Pretoria.

 

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
