SCHOOL OF LANGUAGES AND CULTURES

The School of Languages and Cultures is one of the largest Schools of language instruction in Australia with over 40 academic staff.

The School teaches Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish, as well as Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, to students in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, the university-wide concurrent Diploma in Languages, the Diploma of Arts, and dual degree programs.

At postgraduate level the School offers two NAATI-accredited Masters programs in Translation and Interpreting (one in Japanese and one in Chinese) and growing programs in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and TESOL. Staff research and supervise PhD students in these fields and also in Australian Aboriginal languages.

 

The role

The successful candidate will provide support to teaching staff within the School in the use of digital pedagogies and curriculum design through the design, implementation and evaluation of e-learning technologies, resources and associated pedagogies. They will build capability of academic staff through professional development to enhance the active and interactive learning of languages, cultures and (applied) linguistics at the course, major and program level.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant area of Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies, Foreign Language Education, Language Education, or a related field.  Demonstrated experience in the use of digital educational technologies for the design, development, implementation and evaluation of online learning resources and environments and the resources required.  The ability to provide practical support on pedagogic and technical issues to academic staff.  The applicant should also have demonstrated ability to conduct applied research in areas related to curriculum development.

 

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment until 30 June 2020 at Academic level B. The remuneration package will be in the range $92,143 - $109,419 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $107,807 - $128,020 p.a., 2017 salary rates).
