Position Description

The Department of Medicine of McGill University invites applications for the position as Research Scientist at the Assistant Professor level to work within a research team, led by Dr. Samy Suissa.  The candidate will lead and/or support studies of drug safety and effectiveness research to address queries posed by government partners as part of a Canadian drug safety network.  The candidate will also develop and lead an independent research program in pharmacoepidemiology. This is a ranked position within the Contract Academic Staff and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

Job Duties

  • Contribute to a pan-Canadian drug safety and effectiveness network, including leading or participating in queries of drug safety and effectiveness research, leading or participating in the development of protocols and statistical analysis along with senior co-investigators, collaborating on or leading the writing of manuscripts and final reports,  and working  on a day-to-day basis with the Steering Committee member and data analysts to implement protocols of drug safety studies
  • Obtain peer-reviewed operating grants and salary support from funding agencies such as FRQS and CIHR, or other appropriate funding agencies
  • Teach and supervise graduate and undergraduate students
  • Contribute to the University and other scholarly communities

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Candidates must have a PhD in pharmacoepidemiology or a PhD in epidemiology with training in pharmacoepidemiology.
  • Experience in a health care research or academic environment.
  • Prior experience working with and analyzing large databases (administrative claims healthcare data preferred).
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a leader of a team.
  • Knowledge of study design, research methodology, and statistical analysis.
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
