Department of Student Academic Services Solutions Architect (post level 6) (contract appointment: 3 years)

Duties and responsibilities:

Leadership

    Continuously and proactively monitor the business domain for problems and opportunities. Lead business owners and process owners to define future state and value. Propose strategies to achieve the desired future state. Provide specific focused projects/actions to achieve the future state.

 

Operations

  • Identify and propose solutions to current business problems in order to maintain operational stability.
  • Business analysis: high level mapping of business requirements to People, Process and Governance.
  • Systems analysis: high level mapping of business requirements to Technology and Data.
  • Introduce and institutionalise integrated (ERP) thinking into operations - analytical and systems methodologies.
  • Chair the Student Academic Services Change Control Committee.
  • Support and direct others in supporting existing legacy applications as necessary, with the understanding that legacy systems will be replaced in the long term.

 

Business Improvement Projects and Initiatives

  • Work with management and business teams to help identify significant process automation and optimisation opportunities and articulate value.
  • Identify and initiate interventions (projects and change requests) that provide scalable, extensible solutions to business problems - this is an extension to the interventions above that are aimed at bringing operational stability.
  • Provide ERP expertise on projects.
  • Perform a change management function across the business domain.
  • Introduce and institutionalise analytical and systems thinking on projects and initiatives.
  • Work with business domains outside Student Academic Services (e.g. ICT teams) as part of the Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Drive delivery of solutions through hands-on prototyping and immersion.
  • Develop and define business requirements, workflow design, processing mapping, functional specifications, gap analyses and use cases.
  • Review and approve technical approach and design documentation.
  • Review, recommend and implement available or industry standard tools and technologies as appropriate to deliver process optimisation solutions.
  • Design and map “to-be” Systems to People, Process, Data, Technology and Governance.

 

Inherent requirements:

  • Undergraduate qualification and ten (10) years relevant work experience or
  • Honours qualification and seven (7) years relevant work experience or
  • Masters qualification and four (4) years relevant work experience.
  •  

    Required competencies:

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University's richly diverse working environment.
    • Management of staff
    • Customer/Client Focus.
    • Ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment.

     

    Recommendations:

    • Four (4) years’ experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
    • Experience with multiple PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Implementations.
    • A qualification as a Business Analyst.
    • Knowledge of Applications, Admissions, Registration, Examinations, Student Records, Timetabling and related at a Higher Education Institution.
