Head, Section of Hepatology

The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) Medicine Program is seeking a Head of its Section of Hepatology. The Section is one of 17 academic sections in the Department of Internal Medicine providing patient care, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education, and has an active clinical and lab-based research program. Section members actively collaborate with scientists from other departments and institutions in Canada and elsewhere, including the National Microbiology Laboratory/Public Health Agency of Canada based in Winnipeg.

The successful applicant will lead a group of academic hepatologists in a busy and expanding liver disease program and report to the Head, Department of Internal Medicine and Medical Director, Medicine Program, WRHA. They will be a clinician-scientist or clinician-investigator with proven leadership abilities and administrative skills, and a strong track record of continuing productivity in lab-based, translational, and/or investigator driven clinical research in Hepatology. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a high capacity to collaborate within and outside their current department/institution. Interests in furthering undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education in Hepatology are required. The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for the endowed Morberg Family Chair in Hepatology.

Candidates must demonstrate broad experience in clinical management of liver diseases (including pre- and post-transplant), must have specialty qualifications in Internal Medicine and/or Gastroenterology/Hepatology in the country of current practice, and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.

This is a geographical, full-time, contingent position commencing July 1, 2018 or as soon thereafter as possible, for a term of five years, renewable upon favorable review. Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
