Job Purpose

As one of the University’s largest Schools, the School of Education has a central role in advancing the research and teaching standing of the University. The School is an international leader in education with a history of top rated research. In the 2017 QS World Rankings, it was ranked 25th in the World and joint 6th in Europe.

Following recent the recent award from The British Academy the School of Education is looking to recruit a Research Fellow in support of its project entitled: “Advancing Equality in Higher Education: an exploratory study of the Athena SWAN and Race Equality Charters”. The study will explore the impact of the charter marks on work practices; good practice and how it can be improved; and identify key themes and issues for future research and policy-making. It will consist of focus groups and in-depth interviews with participants.

The post holder will be required to be a skilled qualitative researcher, to create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within an established research programme and/or specific research project.

 

Person Specification

  • First degree in area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
