The Office of the Director, Gatton Campus is responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective operations of the Gatton Campus of The University of Queensland, supporting academic teaching, research and community programs.The Office of the Director Gatton Campus portfolio encompasses the Gatton Dairy Unit, Pig Unit, Equine Unit, Cropping Unit, Grazing Animal Unit, Queensland Animal Science Precinct, UQ-GVEC and the Halls of Residence in addition to administration functions and OH&S.

The Gatton Dairy Unit is a joint initiative of The University of Queensland and Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and operates as a commercial farm as well as a teaching, research and extension facility.  The Dairy Unit currently has a milking herd of 300 cows.

 

The Role

The successful appointee will support the Dairy Supervisor in day-to-day operations of the Dairy Unit, including but not limited to maintenance of equipment, feeding and monitoring health and welfare of dairy stock, and providing technical/logistical support to research projects and teaching activities.

 

The Person

Applicants should possess a Diploma and at least 2 years subsequent relevant work experience and a C class motor vehicle license. You should also have a solid knowledge of intensive pasture and grazing management, livestock equipment and infrastructure, husbandry, breeding, nutrition, health, and behavior of dairy cattle. The appointee should be able to work well independently and as part of a team, have effective communication skills, and be willing to take accountability for operational duties.

Remuneration

This is a full-time continuing appointment at HEW Level 5. The remuneration package will be in the range $64,597.80-$72,348.94 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $75,579.43- $84,648.26 p.a.).
