Computational Geoscientist

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a vibrant, multidisciplinary School with extensive teaching and research programs covering the fields of Geology, Geography, Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety Sciences and Planning.

 

The role

The successful appointee will be working on the development and application of advanced large-scale inversion techniques for non-seismic geophysical data using parallel computers at UQ and at the Australia's supercomputer infrastructure. The work will support the NCRIS Australian Earth and Geospatial Science project, see http://www.auscope.org.au/. The successful appointee will be engaged with staff and students of the computational geophysics group of Associate Professor Lutz Gross at UQ and other scientists in Australia and overseas.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in geophysics, applied mathematics or scientific computing. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in solving practical geophysical inversion problems using parallel computers and comes with a  background in theoretical and applied geophysics, numerical methods and scientific computing.

Remuneration

This is a full-time fixed term appointment until 30 June 2018 (with possible extension) at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,545.80 - $87,535.13 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95, 408.58 - $102,416.1 p.a.).
