Job Purpose

The projects may involve one of more of hunting for new cancer predisposition or driver genes in whole-genome sequence data, annotating genetic data with functional data from projects such as ENCODE, analysing 3D chromosome structure and interaction data, integrating multi-modal ‘omics data, and implementing methods for techniques such as single cell ‘omics. The role may involve working with colleagues on several projects with different types of data within the overall theme of molecular oncology.

 

Person Specification

  • A very good first degree in a relevant subject and a post-graduate degree in Biostatistics, Boinformatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computing, Mathematical Biology or a related subject.
  • PhD degree in Biostatistics, Boinformatics, Computing, Mathematical Biology or a related subject.
  • Several years’ demonstrable experience, ability and practical success in biostatistics or bioinformatics at senior post-doctoral level.
  • Experience of successfully obtaining, quality controlling and analysing large data sets such as ICGC or TCGA.
  • Experience of setting up and maintaining databases.
  • Proficiency in the use of statistical programming languages such as R/BioConductor.
  • Experience of developing scientific techniques.
  • Excellent computing skills.
  • Excellent data analysis skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and intensively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrable ability to organise and prioritise work efficiently whilst delivering results to the required standard and an agreed schedule.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive approach.
  • A publication record in cancer genomics at a high level.
  • Participation in large consortia.
  • Experience in successfully presenting and explaining data to diverse groups.
  • Interest in scientific and medical questions.
