Job Purpose

The Education Services and Support team within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences consists of over 100 professional services staff who work together to support and enable the delivery of education through our academic colleagues across Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes supported by colleagues from the Institutes.

The Programme Manager for the Bachelor of Nursing, Undergraduate Masters in Nursing and the Mentorship training programme is responsible for operational delivery of the Professional Services support team with circa 400 undergraduate students in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences. Supported by a team of Administrative staff the Programme Manager will ensure that administrative activities are completed within pre-agreed timescales in line with Key Performance Targets and standards. The post-holder will work closely with the Nursing and Mentorship Academic Teams to advise on developments and identify risks throughout the academic cycle. The post holder will be a full participating member of the Nursing Senior Management team and will advise external stakeholders as appropriate. The post-holder will represent the University and the College at local and national conferences and meetings as required.

The post-holder will be accountable for the administration of the Nursing programmes delivered across the University and NHS Trusts. Under the direction of the Nursing Academic Team the post holder will work independently, whilst consulting with senior academic staff, the Head of Education Services and Support and the Operations Manager for Undergraduate Programmes. The post holder will lead and participate in cross College initiatives to share best practice and work with colleagues in Student Services to develop and implement consistent processes and procedures that meet the University’s objectives for student support and academic administration.

 

Person Specification

  • Educated to Degree level or significant equivalent experience in an education environment
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to write clear and concise reports on complex matters
  • Significant experience of staff management including managing performance.
  • Demonstrable ability to plan and manage own workload and that of others in a highly efficient and effective manner, and to meet competing deadlines
  • The ability to work proactively, independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to work quickly and accurately, paying close attention to detail
  • Experience of setting up and maintaining complex working systems
  • Excellent IT skills using Microsoft Office and the ability to manipulate computer systems and databases
  • The ability to work flexibly in a fast moving, dynamic environment where change is often required immediately
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and oral, and an ability to establish effective working relationships with people at all levels, and to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work within a regulatory and legislative frameworks
  • Ability to analyse situations and information, using this to formulate clear proposals and outcomes
  • Ability to prioritise a diverse workload, anticipate and resolve problems, often to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex policy matters to students and staff
  • Demonstrable ability to analyse relevant trends and to summarise these in concise and accurate reports
  • Experience of developing policies and procedures in order to contribute to the strategic vision of the programmes
  • Demonstrable ability to develop processes and systems to deliver customer focused services
  • Demonstrable ability to manage a budget effectively in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Experience of providing committee support
