Departmental Manager

The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering has several well established under- and postgraduate programmes. The Department also has a strong and rapidly growing research footprint. This appointment is specifically aimed at strengthening the Department's management capacity.

 

Duties:

The duties of the Departmental Manager will, amongst others, include the following:

  • Asset management;
  • Finance and budget management;
  • Subject registrations;
  • Personnel management, planning and performance management;
  • Risk management and planning;
  • Building and facilities management;
  • Fundraising and marketing;
  • Training of new, non-academic staff;
  • Serving on departmental committees;
  • Supporting chairman with implementing the departmental business strategy;
  • Providing management information.

 

Job Requirements:

  • BEng, BSc or equivalent four-year science/engineering/technology (SET) qualification;
  • Five years' appropriate work experience;
  • Proven management experience;
  • Proven financial management experience;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills.

 

Recommendation:

  • Project management experience;
  • Personnel management experience;
  • Experience with the management of research- and development projects;
  • Proven management experience in the SET higher education environment, or research- and development environment;
  • Ability to effectively work in a multilingual environment;
  • Masters qualification.
