The PhD project will be focused on developing chemistries for spatially and temporally controlled immobilisation of ligands/ biorecognition elements (e.g. antibodies and aptamers) in porous materials such as hydrogels. The student will characterise the developed chemistries using techniques such as fluorescent imaging, scanning electron microscopy and label-free sensors.
In order to qualify for this studentship you need to hold or obtain a minimum of a good (>65%) upper second class or higher integrated UK masters (MSci/MChem) degree or equivalent in biochemistry or chemistry. Students with a combination of a good UK or equivalent BSc degree followed by an MSc with >60% in all taught elements will also qualify.
Applications can be made via the following link: https://sits.bham.ac.uk/lpages/EPS006.htm. For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Ruchi Gupta by email: r.gupta.3@bham.ac.uk. For information about the University of Birmingham, visit http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/index.aspx.
