Job Details

NIHR CLAHRC Wessex Research Fellow ERE 4 (Self-management of multimorbidity during cancer recovery)

Contract available until December 2018 due to funding restrictions (with the possibility of extension to 2019, a contract for extended funding is currently under negotiation)

You will join a multi-disciplinary team with strengths in applied social science looking at how we can make a difference through researching, implementing and evaluating interventions focussed on supporting older people living with multimorbidity. This particular project focuses on how to best support people’s self-management over time during their recovery from cancer. The work fits within a set of broader academic interests where we aim to advance understanding of the ways that life-changing and life-limiting diseases impact on individuals and families, and to understand the ways that their experiences are shaped by complex healthcare processes. Our discovery research focuses on ageing, dementia, cancer survivorship, end of life care and implementation science. It seeks to contribute to improvements in care quality, safety, and effectiveness. Southampton is one of the best places in the UK for applied health services research and education.

Our programme of work for the CLAHRC* explores the development and evaluation of interventions to support older people living with multimorbidity. The proposed project aims to identify aspects of patient workload and capacity amenable to modification and intervention by conducting a synthesis of research evidence on self-management prioritisation and practices when living with multiple long term conditions. Through stakeholder engagement, findings will be used to inform the development and piloting of an intervention targeted at supporting the self-management of older people living with multiple long-term conditions following the end of cancer treatment.
