Junior Lecturer / Lecturer (Structural Geology)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lecture modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level in structural geology and field work techniques.
  • Perform high quality research in field of specialisation.
  • Organise and lead student field trips.
  • Supervise honours and in the case of appointment at lecturer level, masters students.
  • Perform ad-hoc tasks as prescribed by the Head of the Department.
  • Assist with the maintenance and operation of the department’s research equipment.
  • Enroll and work diligently towards the completion of an MSc / PhD degree if not already in possession of a doctoral degree.
  •  

    Inherent requirements:

    Junior Lecturer:

  • BSc (Hons) degree in Geology with prior research experience on the structural geological aspects of complex orogenetic sequences from a regional geological perspective.
  • A good academic record that will allow access to further postgraduate studies in geology.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  •  

    Lecturer:

  • Master’s degree in Geology with research focused on the structural geological aspects of complex orogentic sequences from a regional geological perspective.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.
  • A good academic record that will allow access to further postgraduate studies in geology.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  •

  • Registration as professional natural scientist.
  • Previous research experience on the Namaqua-Natal Province.
  • Proven lecturing and research experience at a higher education institution.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  •  

    Assumption of duties:

    1 April 2018
