Job Details

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join the research groups of Dr Evans and Dr Carugo to develop novel methods of delivering drugs in bone repair using ultrasound-responsive nanodroplets.

In your role you will help develop acoustic bubbles or nanodroplets that expand into bubbles when excited by sound waves. You test whether they release drugs, and how this affects cells and tissues in vivo. You will specifically focus on their potential to stimulate stem cells to generate bone tissue.

This EPSRC-funded project is a collaboration between the University of Southampton and the University of Oxford. You will work in a vibrant, multidisciplinary team based in the Faculties of Medicine and Engineering at the University of Southampton, but will also work with colleagues based in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification, ideally with a background in bioengineering, but we encourage applications from talented individuals with backgrounds in biology, physics and chemistry. Previous experience in vivo bone repair models, stem cell culture and biomedical acoustics is desirable but not essential. You should be a highly motivated candidate, capable of independently designing experiments, innovating, and contributing intellectually to the direction of the project. Evidence of publishing quality peer-reviewed research papers would also be advantageous.

Informal inquiries may be directed to Dr Evans (n.d.evans@soton.ac.uk) or Dr Carugo (d.carugo@soton.ac.uk).

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
