Job Details

We are recruiting to a full-time position to manage two newly founded University of Bristol Specialist Research Institutes, the Bristol Institute for Migration and Mobility Studies and the Bristol Poverty Institute. The Specialist Research Institutes encompass areas where the University is already world-leading and is looking to further develop capacity. The Bristol Institute for Migration and Mobility Studies is recognised as setting the agenda in migration research, particularly in the fields of colonial and postcolonial experience, ethnicity and citizenship; family migration, and the analysis of migration data. The work of the Bristol Poverty Institute provides multidisciplinary analysis of the underlying causes of poverty with leading-edge expertise in the measurement of child/youth poverty and in the development of effective anti-poverty policies.

The manager will play a pivotal role in driving the success of these Institutes, strategically and operationally. You will work to the Institute Directors, but will be supported by the University’s Research Development Team, and will support the full range of activities of both Institutes. You will lead the planning and policy development of matters relating to the activities of the Institutes, including the development of interdisciplinary research (within the University and beyond), profile-raising and policy and public engagement. You will take a lead in liaising with other professional services to raise the Institutes’ profiles (including web and social media), and contribute to the development of communications and marketing materials.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment, who can work in a team and on their own initiative. You should have either a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience and have a good knowledge of research management and funding. Experience of working in the Higher Education or HE funding sector would be particularly useful. Strong interpersonal, organisational and IT skills are essential.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
