MANAGER: TRANSFORMATION AND STRATEGIC PROJECTS

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The purpose of this position is to drive the transformation agenda of the University in line with the UP 2025 Vision and Strategy and to ensure alignment with the institutional Human Capital objectives. This will include, inter alia:

  • Ensuring that the Transformation Strategy of the University is aligned and implemented in line with the strategy and plan of the University;
  • Identifying, scoping and leading all Transformation projects (including Culture Enablement, Institutional Transformation, Change Capability Development, Diversity and Social Cohesion initiatives) and other projects;
  • Co-ordinating the implementation of any new/additional transformation programmes/initiatives and to develop processes and metrics that supports the achievement of the institution’s goals;
  • Formulating, communicating and implementing overall UP transformation, Employment Equity, BBEE Plans and being responsible for institutional transformation communication and stakeholder management;
  • Establishing and providing guidance to the formation of Change Committees;
  • Implementing a dashboard to monitor UP’s transformation performance and measuring performance against set targets;
  • Ensuring compliance to overall legislation and building awareness around these;
  • Regularly reviewing policies, practices and procedures pertaining to transformation EE and B-BBEE and ensuring adherence to these;
  • Providing guidance and support to the Institution in respect of the implementation of employment equity, B-BBEE and other transformation initiatives;
  • Being involved in any ad-hoc special projects. 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A three-year qualification in Industrial Psychology/ Human Resource Management or equivalent;
  • Minimum of eight years’ experience in transformation (including EE and B-BBEE) or change management experience of which four years must have been in a large institution/company (i.e. with more than 2500 employees);
  • At least five years’ experience in managing complex people-related projects.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Proven knowledge and experience in the following:
    • Organisational climate and culture surveys;
    • Organisational learning and change theory, management and communication;
    • Project planning and management;
    • Team facilitation;
  • Clear understanding of BBBEE compliance requirements;
  • Sound knowledge of all legislation (Labour Relations Act, EE Act, Skills Development Act, etc.);
  • Knowledge of good corporate governance principles.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Industrial Psychology/Human Resources Management or equivalent;
  • A one-year Project Management qualification;
  • 10 years’ experience in transformation (including EE and B-BBEE) or change management;
  • At least seven years’ experience in managing complex people-related projects.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 617 910 to R 766 527 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
