Job Details

The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic leader as Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

With major University investment and expansion of staff and students during the last four years, the Faculty is stronger than ever and at an exciting phase in its development.

The role of Dean is one of strategic and inspirational leadership, with an emphasis on achieving world-class standards in education at the same time as taking the Faculty's research activities to new heights.

The Dean will be a key figure within the University of Bristol, serving on the University Management Team, promoting the achievement of the University's vision and overall objectives, and advancing the collective formulation and delivery of the University's academic strategy, in the context of ambitious University-wide initiatives that include the development of the £300 million Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus.

Candidates will have outstanding leadership credentials and a track record of excellence in research and education. The ability to engage, lead, and influence across the diversity of disciplines within the Faculty is a key requirement of the role, as is the aptitude to develop partnerships, internally and with arts and cultural bodies regionally, nationally, and internationally. A deep commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is essential.

The appointment as Dean is for a period of five years initially, with the possibility of extension after this period. After the term of office as Dean, the post holder will remain in post as a professor.

This is an outstanding opportunity to shape the future of arts and humanities at a pioneering, Russell Group University in a creative, culturally vibrant city names the best city to live in by The Sunday Times 'Best Places to Live Guide 2017'.

Closing date:

10.00 GMT on Monday, 5 February 2018.

The interview process will take place over two days on 21 and 21 March 2018.
