Job Details

Job Purpose

The post-holder will develop and deliver entrepreneurial skills education and start-up support to the University’s current and recently graduated Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs). The post-holder will work closely with colleagues including the PG Careers Consultant (Careers Network), PGR Careers Advisor (University Graduate School) and the Business Start-Up Manager (Careers Network) to develop PGRs’ entrepreneurial skills. This will enable PGRs to commercialise innovative ideas and/or world-class research knowledge, start up their own businesses, and increase their access to appropriate level employment. The post-holder will build upon initiatives such as the University’s highly successful Postgraduate Enterprise Summer School to create entrepreneurial development opportunities for the University’s extensive and diverse PGR population. The post will also enable PGRs to become involved in national and international student entrepreneur competitions, developing their skills and helping the PGRs increase their economic and societal impact.

 

Person Specification

  • A good first degree or equivalent.
  • Experience of entrepreneurship or entrepreneurial education.
  • Relevant professional or industrial experience in private, public or not for profit sectors.
  • A good understanding of Higher Education and the issues impacting on student and PGR employability.
  • Experience in business development, leadership or innovation.
  • A willingness to learn and keep up to date with regional, national and international entrepreneurial and professional networks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of client groups, including PGRs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and experience of successfully managing multiple projects to deadlines and budgets.
  • Adaptable and flexible when faced with change.
  • Extensive project management experience and the ability to set goals and priorities.
  • Proven experience of software packages including Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel.
  • Demonstrable experience of negotiation and persuasion, working with external partners and senior members of staff.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and be outcome orientated.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, co-ordinating and running activities to ensure effective delivery.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
