Job Purpose

The College of Arts and Law is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral research fellow to work on the ERC funded project ‘Global Literary Theory: Caucasus Literatures Compared (GlobalLIT)’.

The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Work towards monograph on Persian literary theory
  • Assist with compilation of anthology on Global Literary Theory
  • Analyse and interpret research findings and results
  • Apply knowledge in a way that develops new intellectual understanding
  • Undertake management/administration arising from research, such as providing logistical support for workshop organisation
  • Gather texts and manuscripts and assist with translation
  • Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as literature reviews, research interviews, etc
  • Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
  • Contribute to public engagement/impact activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader
  • Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars, present at conferences
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines

 

Person Specification

  • PhD in literary studies
  • Native or near-native fluency in Persian
  • Expertise in translation studies (English - Persian and Persian – English)
  • Publications in the area of literary translation
  • Knowledge of poetry (including various metrical systems)
  • Expertise in Critical Theory
  • Extensive knowledge of Persian literary history
  • Extensive knowledge of Iran
  • Ability to synthesize research findings
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
  • Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
