Main Duties

The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Assist the East African Research Fund (ERDF) project team to undertake the research required to develop ‘A Systems Approach to Air Pollution in East Africa (ASAP).
  • To undertake qualitative research including interviews and quantitative research involving the development of a diagnostics approach of socio-economic activity in three urban settings in East Africa (Nairobi, Kampala and Addis Ababa).
  • To develop and co-write journal papers and related publications.
  • Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding.
  • Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc
  • Contribute to developing new techniques and methods for data analysis
  • Undertake management/administration arising from research activities
  • Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration.
  • Contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the ASAP project and the University.
  • Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as surveys, literature reviews, and research interviews
  • Prepare and present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof
  • Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines

 

Person Specification

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area (for example, Regional Economic Development, Economic/Human Geography, Urban Planning or Regional Policy)
  • High level analytical capability and statistical methods
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • They should also be interested in working in an interdisciplinary research team.
  • Experience in conducting research in the Global South is desirable, but not essential.

 

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range ofactivities within the ASAP ERDF funded project.
