Research Assistant in Sustainable Water Purification

Do you have a solid background in contaminant (bio)-geochemistry? Do you enjoy working on cutting edge x-ray spectroscopy techniques? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of an international and dynamic team working on development of a crucial aspect of a novel water purification technology. You will be testing different bio-derived products for their adsorption capacity of heavy metal/contaminant to determine whether they are suitable for application in the water filtration system. This will include looking at the bulk adsorption, as well as the chemical speciation of the adsorbed metals on the surface of the materials. Working independently, you will design suitable experiments and conduct them with different bio-derived products containing a variety of surface functionalities.You will effectively communicate the results and analyses with the group, in order to determine the materials best suited for use in sustainable water purification technology. In order to work efficiently over the period of six months, we are looking for a candidate who is open to working in a challenging and fast paced work environment. You will have familiarity with a suite of advanced analytical techniques such as AAS, ICP-MS and XAFS.
