Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI)

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a research institute of the University of Queensland (UQ) which was established in 2010 and comprises of four research centres – the Centre for Crop Science, the Centre for Horticultural Science, the Centre for Animal Science and the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.

Beef cattle production in Queensland is the largest agricultural commodity estimated to be worth $4.3 billion in the 2015-16 year. QAAFI’s Centre for Animal Science has a core focus on high impact science for sustainable beef production. Key drivers to the beef cattle industry’s sustainability is improving the nutrition, health and welfare and genetics of the animal both on pasture and in the feedlot in order to increase productivity while improving product quality. The successful applicant would contribute to this goal in the area of nutrition and in collaboration with researchers in the health and welfare, and genetics areas.

QAAFI scientists are driven to make a difference to the agriculture and food industries and have over 150 collaborators worldwide.

The role

The successful applicant will engage in an independent and/or team research program to achieve national recognition in the research area of ruminant nutrition and beef cattle production. You will contribute to an ongoing program of discovery, applied and contract research including the delivery of presentations, educational materials and reports to industry. 

 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in the area of Animal Production, Animal Science, Agricultural Science or related discipline. You will have demonstrated knowledge in the area of ruminant nutrition and beef cattle production, as well as the ability to establish effective relationships, industry liaisons and professional contacts. Evidence of a contribution to research, including successful external grant applications will be highly regarded.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 26 months at Research Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,545 - $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,408 - $102,416 p.a.).
