Job Purpose
A Research Fellow is required to become part of a team working on a Wellcome Trust-funded study exploring the ethics of care on social media, which is led by Dr Anna Lavis at the University of Birmingham. The study comprises an online ethnography of self-harm interactions as well as public engagement and networking activities.
The post holder will be responsible for online ethnographic data collection, as well as undertaking some data analysis and dissemination alongside research administration duties.
The successful candidate will have a background in medical anthropology, with experience of conducting ethnography on a health-related topic. Experience of social media or text-based data analysis is desirable. An interest in mental health and wellbeing, and an in-depth knowledge of anthropological theory and methods are essential.
Person Specification
- First degree and a higher degree in anthropology or a related subject. High level analytical capability
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Fluency in ethnographic recruitment, conduct and analysis.
- Knowledge of ethical practice and research governance related to online and/or health-related qualitative research
