Purpose
The Product Quality Engineer (PQE) represents the voice of the customer (paying and permitting) throughout the product lifecycle to assure appropriate levels of quality and reliability planning, measurement, and achievement. The PQE protects and enhances the reputation of the company through management of technical risk across product application, design, and manufacturing.

The scope of the PQE at the Senior level involve supporting product lines of moderate revenue and complexity through new product introductions and sustainment of fielded products to achieve strategic quality goals throughout the warranty period. This individual will prepare and deliver reports to site leadership and/or project leadership on periodic and ad hoc basis. This individual will lead cross-functional teams comprised of employees from multiple sites through the risk management process, preventive, and corrective actions aimed at resolving unacceptable failure/complaint rates, out-of-box performance, and warranty costs. This individual will also execute to the governing Quality Management System in compliance with ISO9001.


Key Responsibilities
  • Owner of product development deliverables such as the Quality Plan, Internal Requirements Document, Life Cycle Risk Management Plan and Report, supplier set-up plan and coordination with Supplier Quality Engineers, review and approval of configuration deliverables to plan.
  • Owner of sustaining product quality engineering deliverables such as: Life Cycle Risk Management Report revisions, production NCR/MRB disposition review/approvals, CAPA, Product Line Quality Reporting, service alert reviews, and returned product investigations; detection of product design, manufacturing process, service, or application exceptions that increase failure rates of fielded product beyond acceptable levels.
  • Product analysis and improvement through utilization of FMEA, statistical quality and reliability tools, and other methodologies inherent in the six sigma body of knowledge.
  • Lead teams on specific improvement projects affecting metrics such as: out-of-box failure rate, complaint rate, % survival during warranty period, warranty costs, and scrap costs.
  • Support external audits from Regulatory Authorities, Registrar, Customers, or Corporate Quality where applicable.
  • Work with R&D, Service, Operations, Purchasing and Supplier Quality Engineering to improve product quality and reduce cost.
  • Mentor and coach junior level engineers and/or technicians as needed.
