Job Details

The Global Lounge is a new initiative, shortly to be launched by the University, and will be a multifunctional, campus-based hub for our globally-oriented activities, promoting and celebrating multiculturalism.

The University of Bristol has a substantial and growing number of international students who have a unique contribution to make. The role of the Global Lounge Manager is to provide a strong lead to ensure appropriate engagement at all levels with the student body, the Student Union and a wide variety of professional services as well as Faculties across campus.

Working closely with the Director International, the Student Union and a wide range of stakeholders, the role holder will initially be responsible for setting up the Global Lounge (both as a physical space – due to be launched in September 2019 and a virtual initiative, in mid-2018), developing all aspects of the strategy, operational plans and programme of activities delivered by the Global Lounge.

Once the Global Lounge is launched as a physical space, the role holder will take responsibility for all aspects of the management of the Global Lounge, including events programming (in collaboration with the SU and Student Societies), the management of the International Student Ambassadors staffing the Lounge and the promotion of all activities taking place under the auspices of the Global Lounge.

The role holder is also responsible for the line management of a Global Lounge Assistant, who supports the organisation and delivery of all events including the International Welcome events at the beginning of the academic year. This role takes the lead in managing a significant discretionary budget.

The role requires strong general management, as well as organisational skills and cultural sensitivity. There is also a strong liaison element, which requires advanced negotiation skills to harness colleagues’ enthusiasm and focus it on the institutional direction, while building and maintaining productive relationships with key stakeholders on campus and externally.

Interviews are expected to take place as soon as possible after the closure date.

For any informal enquiries please contact Caroline BaylonDirector Internationaldirector-international@bristol.ac.uk

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
