Assistant Director: (post level 7)

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Review processes and systems, and submit proposals for their improvement.

  • Implement financial policies and procedures.

  • Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting.

  • Responsible for year-end processes and reporting of commercial debtors department.

  • Manage PeopleSoft financial system, with specific reference to the commercial debtors modules.

  • Maintain master data on PeopleSoft Campus Solution system for Short Learning Programmes and processing of related journals.

  • Assess the viability, sustainability and profitability of businesses and subprojects of the UFS.

  • Provide expert advice on financial aspects including commercial debtors and 3rd stream income.

  • Responsible for financial reporting of 3rd stream income generated by reporting to grant holders and other commercial investors.

  • Liaise with lawyers on debtors who have been handed over and related legal expenses.

  • Liaise with auditors to manage agreed upon procedures from grantors and 3rd stream income entities. 

  •  

    Inherent requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Accounting/Finance. (B.Com or B.Acc).

  • Three (3) to four (4) years relevant experience in the financial environment and/or a related information technology environment.

  •  

    Required competencies:

    • Business acumen.

    • Building Coalitions.

     

    Recommendations

    • In depth knowledge of accounting principles and standards.

    • SAICA/SAIPA registration.

    • Knowledge of credit management strategies and best collection processes.

    • Knowledge of applicable legislation (Credit Management Act/Consumer Protection Act/POPI Act).

    • Knowledge of data analysis techniques and processes.

    • Knowledge of reporting systems.

    • Knowledge of applications and programmes in order to conduct work (MS Word/MS Excel/PeopleSoft).
