Job Details
Applicants should be able to demonstrate relevant skills and experience that would enable them to contribute significantly to the department’s delivery of teaching in the areas of cloud computing and remotely-accessed services for data analytics. The primary focus of this role will be designing and developing online teaching material in the form of video demonstrations and lectures, web pages, code examples to be open-sourced via online repositories, and associated exercises and self-test material. Applicants should have a very good degree in Computer Science or a relevant computationally-intensive discipline, demonstrable ability to work independently, excellent communication and organization skills, and should be able to demonstrate familiarity with current cloud computing service provisions from major suppliers such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform Engine, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud.
Prior experience in technical authoring and cloud service application development are both highly desirable attributes for this role. Previous experience of the delivery of high-quality, innovative undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is also desirable. The successful applicant will be required to work with various members of academic staff already engaged in teaching cloud computing. The line-manager for this role is Professor Dave Cliff; the role is funded by a grant from the HEFCE Catalyst Fund, under HEFCE’s “Closing the Skills Gap” call, for which Professor Cliff is the Principal Investigator.
Applicants must include with their CV or cover letter a one-page teaching statement describing the contribution that they can make to teaching in the Department, especially in respect of innovation in delivery and content.
