    The Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. It is a centre for learning, teaching and research in a vast range of engineering disciplines, computer science and high level mathematics.     The School of Mathematical Sciences provides an intellectual environment, developing students with skills in high level mathematics. The school provides specific degrees in mathematical sciences and computer sciences with specialisations in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics.

    This position is funded by the ARC Discovery Project “Advanced mathematical models and methods for a randomly-varying world.” The successful applicant with develop theoretical and numerical frameworks for Markov-modulated (also known as regime-switching) diffusions. The ultimate goals are to analytically obtain performance measures of these processes, and to efficiently simulate their trajectories. We also plan to apply new models and methods to address problems in ecology and epidemiology.

    Salary: (Level A, with PhD) $83,307 - $89,425 per annum.

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 17% applies.

    Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately for a period of 2.5 years.

     

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

  • A PhD in Applied Mathematics, or closely related field. 

  • Demonstrated research experience in applied probability and stochastic modelling.

  • Demonstrated experience in numerical modelling.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
