Job Details
This position will complement our recent development of a groundwater parameterization for large-scale hydrological applications, under the NERC-funded project AMUSED (A MUlti-scale Soil moisture-Evapotranspiration Dynamics), to be implemented into the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES). Previous experience with land surface models (e.g. JULES, CLM, Noah, VIC), programming knowledge (e.g. Fortran or C), and experience with Linux operating system are essential.
The candidate will collect and develop a database with meteorological and ancillary data (available either globally or from ground-based measurements), set up and run JULES with our newly developed groundwater parameterization, and evaluate model performance against available measurements for a number of selected regions in the world. The candidate will work as part of our research team; hence we are looking for someone with proven ability to work in a team and in developing collaborative links. Excellent communication skills and written and spoken English are also essential.
Candidates should hold, or expect to hold shortly, a PhD or equivalent in hydrology or related discipline (e.g. environmental science, meteorology) with an interest in large-scale hydrological or land surface modelling applications. A proven track record of publications in peer-reviewed high-quality journals is essential.
This post is offered on a full time fixed term contract for up to seven months. It is anticipated that interviews will take place shortly after the closing date. Informal enquiries can be made to: Rafael Rosolem email address: rafael.rosolem@bristol.ac.uk
The School particularly welcomes applications from female and BAME candidates who are currently under-represented in the academic staff. We are keen to support those with caring responsibilities. The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
