To pursue sustained research activity to demonstrate outstanding distinction in original research which has a demonstrable international impact and to make a significant contribution to the management and delivery of research within the University.

Person Specification

The Centre of Precision Rehabilitation for Spinal Pain within the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Birmingham is seeking to appoint a faculty member at Reader level. The appointed candidate will be expected to have ambition to participate in one of the UK’s strongest research Schools, maintaining our strengths as a leading research-led teaching department, capturing external research funding, and publishing work of the highest academic quality and impact.

The appointee will be expected to show the ability to contribute to and shape the strategic direction of the Centre and the School, to maintain its reputation at a national and international level, and to contribute to outstanding postgraduate supervision and undergraduate teaching.

The appointee will have a background consistent with a research focus on musculoskeletal pain and rehabilitation. The candidate is expected to have an international reputation, and a significant track record of internationally leading pain and rehabilitation-related research (evidenced for example by a number of high impact journal publications). The appointee will also have a track record in attracting external research funding and leadership and management skills and will be an inspiring teacher, able to communicate with researchers, undergraduates and the general public.

The applicant will possess a PhD within a subject area consistent with pain and rehabilitation research. The applicant will be able to demonstrate excellent project management and organisational skills, the ability to work to deadlines and previous experience in working with teams of people from academic and non-academic backgrounds.
