Job Details

A high-profile, high-impact role for an inspirational, visionary and collaborative leader who will work with a highly dedicated and talented community to take Sheridan to new levels of success as a leading Polytechnic, and ultimately a Polytechnic university.

Founded in 1967, Sheridan has grown from a local college of 400 students to one of Ontario’s leading postsecondary institutions, educating approximately 23,000 full-time and 17,000 continuing and part-time students every year on three Ontario campuses – in Oakville, Brampton and Mississauga. An award-winning institution, Sheridan attracts students from across Canada and around the world, and its 160,000+ alumni play a critical role in shaping the future of our society in the fields of arts, business, community service, health, technology, and the skilled trades.

Thanks to a team that challenges traditional ideas of what makes a great undergraduate education and what a leading undergraduate school can accomplish, Sheridan is a pathfinder – moving forward as a polytechnic, ultimately a polytechnic university, in order to provide more pathways that enable students to gain entrance into postgraduate university programs. Embracing the concept of creativity with purpose, Sheridan offers 25 degree programs and a large selection of certificates, diplomas, and postgraduate credentials. Sheridan’s creative campus environment, great undergraduate teaching and applied research, purposeful programs and big student life make this a unique place to learn and to lead.

As Sheridan’s new President and Vice-Chancellor, you will chart a new course of strategic growth and development, creativity, innovation, academic excellence and student success, inspiring all members of the College – Board of Governors, Senior Leadership team, the Senate, Deans, Directors, Administrators, faculty, support staff, union leaders, student leaders, and external stakeholders – and building on a solid foundation to reach new heights of organizational achievement.

Accountable to the Board of Governors, you will provide executive leadership to Sheridan’s staff to ensure that Sheridan is successful in meeting the diversified educational and training needs of the Polytechnic-level postsecondary students and the ultimate recognition of Sheridan against university-standards as articulated by Universities Canada. A proven relationship builder, you will develop and optimize strategic linkages and partnerships with all levels of government, community, education, business, industry, polytechnics, colleges and universities, relevant provincial and national associations across Canada, and international educational sectors to secure new educational and training opportunities in a competitive educational marketplace.

You will work collaboratively on the development of Sheridan’s strategic plan for final Board approval, including the identification of annual educational and operational goals (long-term academic plan), as well as ensure the effective utilization of educational, financial, capital and human resources to achieve both short- and long-term organizational objectives and ensure fiscal sustainability in a challenging provincial context. As Sheridan’s President, you’ll be expected to create a work environment conducive to effective team and individual performance and to the development and delivery of high-quality, sustainable educational programs and services.

A lifelong learner with a passion for student success, and a master’s degree or, preferably, a PhD, you have a proven track record of leadership in translating ideas into actions that add value in a large, complex, collaborative, multiple stakeholder organization. You know how to systematically replicate your own creative and innovation skills throughout the organization, capitalize on exciting new ideas and skills fully generated by staff, and work with a diverse group of people to win trust among all stakeholders. Experience in education, or in a student-centred, collegial learning environment, is a definite asset.

This mandate will benefit from your forward-thinking approach, vision for change and ability to inspire people to embrace and achieve a shared vision, as well as develop and promote an environment that enables innovative thinking and a transparent culture where people feel engaged, valued and rewarded for finding solutions to organizational challenges. You are adept at managing and navigating through multiple corporate disciplines and varying cross-functional groups, and ready to develop and manage productive, effective and collaborative business partnerships locally and globally, internally and externally.

You are fully cognizant of the challenges of executive leadership in the broader public sector, ideally having worked successfully in this environment, enjoy being a visible and active community leader, and welcome the opportunity to lead a strong management team to achieve Sheridan’s mission and strategic goals.
