Junior Lecturer

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) modules in Curriculum Studies and Mathematics or Science Education.
  • Co-ordinate and provide academic advise to prospective Honour’s and Postgraduate Diploma students.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the Honour’s programme.
  • Contribute to academic coordination and perforim administrative tasks related to Honour’s and Postgraduate Diploma programmes.
  • Participate in professonal development training of in-sevice teachers in Mathematics and/or Science.
  • Ensure active involvement in research activities. 
  •  

    Inherent requirements:

  • An Honour’s degree in the field of curriculum studies with an undergradaurte degree in Mathematics Education.
  • A good academic record.
  •  

    Required competencies:

  • Teaching experience in mathematics and/or mathematics education.
  • Knowledge of- and the ability to use Learning Management Systems (LMS) for teaching and assessment.
  • Excellent student advisory skills.
  • Experience with provincial and/or national initiatives on service teacher development in Mathematics or Science.
  • Good interpersonal relationship skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Good computer literacy skills.
  •  

    Recommendations:

  • Master’s degree or willingness to enrol for a Master’s degree in an appropriate educational field of study at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
  • Six (6) to twelve (12) month’s experience in a higher education context.
  • One (1) year experience of working with students in terms of interpersonal relations and/or academic advisory services.
