Strategic Commercial Director - working with unique minerals

What can be described as a revolutionary approach to mining for what is a niche area, our client is transforming the business of graphene and micro graphite mining. With origins in Australia and mining facilities in the Nordic areas, our client putting their revolutionary approaches to practice. As a result and part of an expanding unit, they seek a senior commercial professional who can play a hybrid role between marketing and business development.

The responsibilities for this position will not be straightforward as it will encapsulate a candidate with a variety of skills. Whilst the organisation do not have a product to sell just yet, their proactive approach and investment from a venture capitalist means they are making noises in the market already. Your responsibility will be to wear several hats acting as the business development as well as marketing professional.

Your core responsibilities will be to identify and benchmark against core competitors and industry participants which will provide a strong platform to evaluate markets and potential partners for the organisation.

As a result of this, you will be expected to develop industry models and analyse what the supply and demand will be for graphene and related products.

A key role within a commercial set of responsibilities will be to establish contacts and build key relationships. Pricing strategies will also play a part and so working with commercial teams on this is key.

Much of it will be knocking down doors and building relationships. Often attending seminars, road shows etc to help develop the company brand and name.

Whilst the company have an office in Cambridge, due to travel, you will be able to work from home. Occasional office visits will be needed.

Your profile:

Our client seeks an individual who has a varied set of hats between marketing, business development and technical R&D background. However, the core requirements and desirable requirements are listed below.

  • Ideally a Graduate in engineering or materials science - however educated to degree level is acceptable. Experience qualifies above all of this.
  • A post graduate business degree would be highly regarded but not essential.
  • Minimum 10 years working experience in strategic marketing or business development (preferably within the industrial minerals, materials or chemical industries)
  • Broad experience at bringing new materials to market and interfacing with multinational corporations
  • Highly developed analytical and Excel modelling skills
  • Any experience in Graphene and graphite will be accepted but is not essential.

The position will suit somebody who has an established commercial background in business development and marketing within speciality chemicals, minerals/ mining or broadly speaking chemicals. It will appeal to an individual that has proven experience building a network and future revenue stream without having an established product available to buy at market.
