The role & key responsibilities

The Discipline Lead, Design will lead, direct and manage of an assigned academic discipline in the School of Communication & Design. The Lead will work closely with key members of the School leadership team to integrate activities within design programs to meet the needs of students, staff, and industry, and to ensure a consistent level of academic leadership is delivered across all designated programs. Working closely and collaboratively with the School leadership team, the successful candidate will also significantly contribute to the strategic direction of the School to promoting its Design discipline through effective and innovative marketing and commercial activities. The Discipline Lead will have direct line management of staff in the discipline area. Other responsibilities include includes assisting with strategic planning for all Design programs, program management at program level, quality assurance, student relationship management, human resource management, program budgeting and resource management.

 

Key selection criteria

To be considered for this leadership role, applicants must address the following criteria in the cover letter:

  • PhD or equivalent relevant Doctoral qualification
  • At least 5 years relevant experience, teaching in a University environment.
  • A portfolio with samples of Design practice and teaching
  • Significant engagement with Design practice and the profession.
  • Proven track record of practical outcomes/projects within a relevant Design discipline.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Proven leadership experience within Design education and/or the Design industry
  • Strong team player with an inclusive and collaborative approach


Please note

  • English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS 7.0 (or equivalent).
  • Non-Vietnamese candidates must also meet the requirements of the Vietnamese Work Permit process.
